  • Couple ordered to pay £42,000 after alterations harm historic character of Grade II listed building in Peak District National Park

    A married couple have been ordered to pay £42,000 in penalties after making unauthorised alterations to a building dating back to the 17th century, in the Derbyshire village of Winster. Christopher and Sarah Gillott, along with joiner Simon Mcloughlin, were sentenced at Derby Crown Court, following a prosecution by the Peak District National Park Authority.

    Responding to the Breeding Birds Surveys of the Peak District Moors 1990-2018 report from the Moors for the Future Partnership, Peak District National Park chief executive Sarah Fowler said: “The results from this updated study of moorland birds within the Peak District and South Pennines is a story to be celebrated, and confirms a quiet revolution for our moorlands and a number of threatened species who have seen increases in abundance in excess of 70%.
