The fifteen UK National Parks cover c.10% of the land of Great Britain and are enjoyed by millions every year – the nature in National Parks play a huge role in enhancing local biodiversity, supporting national ecosystems, and contributing to the global climate solution.

To protect and restore all this, we need to take urgent action. National Parks teams, together with local partners, have planned a range of projects that will help habitats to recover and flourish. Boosting biodiversity, enhancing our well-being and increasing climate resilience.

The need to restore nature is urgent – the UK is one of the world’s most nature-depleted countries in the world, in the bottom 10% globally*. UK woodland cover is just 13% (2022) and 38% of UK species are declining in abundance**.  Nature needs to be preserved not only for its beauty but the vital ecosystems services it provides – from carbon removal, to pollination, water cleansing and flood prevention. National Parks are ideally placed to turn the tide.

Local Nature Fund

National Impact | Locally Led

Our National Parks Local Nature Fund aims to secure funding and sponsorship for locally-led projects, empowering communities across the UK’s fifteen National Parks. Through targeted funding, we aim to drive significant nature-positive outcomes across these treasured landscapes.

National Parks across England, Scotland and Wales undertake high quality nature positive projects and are experts in delivering:

  • High impact local nature interventions
  • Evidential nature enhancement
  • Locally-based action resulting in national impact.

Your support will directly enable local groups to deliver impactful projects, including tree and hedgerow planting, community gardens, woodland management, invasive species control, and enhancing access to nature for disadvantaged communities.

Recharge in Nature is our national partnership with BMW UK. To learn more about our nature restoration work watch this video featuring the Glutinous Snail found only in Eryri National Park.
